Selected matters may be considered where individuals or communities are experiencing social or institutional disadvantage and face a significant barrier navigating information, privacy, records, evidence or accountability systems. Every enquiry is considered case by case, subject to scope, capacity and the nature of the matter. Acceptance and availability are not guaranteed.

An initial enquiry should provide only a high-level outline, the people or organisations involved, and the type of assistance sought. Before any work is agreed, a conflict check may consider current and previous relationships, relevant organisations, adverse interests and whether the proposed matter can be considered fairly and safely. No assignment begins until the scope and conflict position are confirmed in writing. Where a conflict or capacity issue exists, the matter may be declined or redirected without disclosing another person’s confidential information.

Potential areas include information access, privacy, records, evidence, institutional accountability and system navigation. Pro Bono support is not legal representation, court or tribunal advocacy, a statutory delegation, emergency assistance, unrestricted free service or a guarantee of a particular outcome. Matters may be limited to information organisation, process navigation, high-level review, referral or systems-oriented support.

Please do not include sensitive personal information, identity documents, medical records, legal documents or confidential organisational material in an initial enquiry. If an enquiry progresses, any document-handling process will be confirmed separately with appropriate security, access, retention and deletion controls. After an initial review, a matter may be accepted for a defined assignment, held while clarification is requested, referred to another service, or declined because of scope, capacity, conflict or fit. A decision to decline does not express a view on the merits of the underlying matter.
